What have I been up to since graduation?
Although I spent my freshman year at Lynchburg College, I am a spring class of 2020 graduate from Radford University in Southwest VA. I received my bachelor’s degree in Media Studies with a concentration in journalism.
Shortly after graduating, I moved to Virginia Beach and began my new career.
For my first job after college, I worked in sales as a contracting specialist for Proper Contracting. Out of the three branch locations, I was one of three women and the youngest salesman in the company. During my time at Proper, I discovered I had a knack for sales. I wrote over $385,000 worth of contracts, and I had the highest numbers in my branch after just two and a half months.
Shortly after leaving Proper Contracting, I landed an assistant web developer job at a small digital marketing company in Norfolk called Surf Your Name. After two months, I was promoted to a digital media specialist, which included more responsibility, more independence, and direct communication with clients.
Additionally, I gained professional experience in the media space as a Digital Content Producer at WFXR-TV, a FOX affiliate news station in Roanoke, Virginia. During my time at WFXR, I gained experience working in an incredibly fast-paced environment where attention to detail, accuracy, and proficiency are critical to the job. I wrote and published over 200 articles covering various topics at the state and local levels. One of the articles I wrote was shown and mentioned on a CNN broadcast.
My experience working in sales continued with remote sales and fundraising for a company called FLS. During my time at FLS, I gained experience working remotely in an aggressive sales environment with daily, weekly, and monthly quotas. I learned the fundamentals of cold calling and how to successfully keep people on the phone. Due to the fast-paced nature of the job, the amount of time spent making the sale was just as important as the dollar amount, and the sale being closed on a credit card.
Throughout the past year, I have regularly met with career development professionals from the Career and Talent Development Department at Radford University. I am currently looking for a full-time position where I can utilize my professional experience, my degree, and my communication skills.
My portfolio has around 250 published articles that I have written, and they are all linked for ease of viewing. I have also linked websites I designed and maintained, and many social media graphics.
